BOOK OF THE WEEK: SO YOU DON'T GET LOST IN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

In celebration of Nobel Prize winner Patrick Modiano the French Institute are holding several special events in his honour. The events will take place from the 16th to the 18th of September and you can find out more info as well as buy tickets here.

To continue our Modiano theme this week's Book of the Week is So You Don't Get Lost in the Neighbourhood translated by Euan Cameron from the original French Pour que tu ne te perdes pas dans le quartier. The book has been published by MacLehose and penetrates the deepest enigmas of identity, begging the question: do we ever know who we truly are?

The plot begins in the stillness of a Paris apartment where Jean Daragane has built a life of total solitude. A surprising phone call shatters the silence of an unusually hot September, and the threatening voice on the other end of the line leaves Daragane wary but irresistibly curious. Almost at once, he finds himself entangled with a shady gambler and a beautiful, fragile young woman, who draw Daragane into the mystery of a decades-old murder. The investigation will force him to confront the memory of a trauma he had all but buried.

With So You Don’t Get Lost in the Neighborhood Patrick Modiano adds a new chapter to a body of work whose supreme psychological insight and subtle, atmospheric writing have earned him worldwide renown.

For more information about the book please visit the publisher's website here and don't forget to come to our Modiano events in two weeks time!
