My late father's time in Paris
My father Carl Kohler 1919-2006 Paris years 1951-53.
I wanted to share with Culturethèque my late father's Paris years. He went to the Swedish Royal Art Academy 1945-1950 and when he graduated he achieved several large state scholarships where he travelled to Egypt, France, Spain. In 1951 my father travelled to Paris and lived/studied/worked there.
He was very much influenced by the great French writers. Later on in his Art-life he created portraits of Marguerite Duras, Anais Nin, Simone de Beauvoir, Edith Piaf, G. Apollinaire, Jean Cocteau, Mauriac, Julien Gracq, Claude Simon, Andre Gide , Patrice Chereau, Samuel Beckett. My father loved (and had a special sense) for the female lines and did several live model drawings from his studio in Paris. I have been very devoted to give my father the recognition he so very much deserves, I hope that my work will (eventually) give him a place in the Art-history for people to remember. He had a unique talent seeing people's visages and a strong feeling for the moving body, he had much inspiration from Ballet, Theatre, Classical Music etc.
