A Brief Summary of Marion Cotillard

As Macbeth slashes through the screens, let's have a little look at where Marion Cotillard popped up from.

So here's the situation, you're on a first date: outfit CHECK, chewing gum CHECK, intelligent film choice CHECK, impressive background knowledge....erm?

Now gather round, this won't be an extensive list (as I just don't have time), and it will obviously be subjective, but I can assure you that it will be in bite-size chunks that will remind you of treacherous hours cramming those GCSE scientific facts that you never used (or remembered).

Film numéro 1: Jeux d'enfants (Love me if you dare) dir. Yann Samuell

I must have seen this film about 26 times - not kidding! It's a mix of Amélie with a dash of Poulet aux prunes and a swimmingly repetitive 'La vie en rose' motif (oo-er look at that terminology). You've got the punchy Marion who stops at nothing to get her man, with a creepy twist at the end. In short, go borrow this film from La Médiathèque.

Film numéro 2: De rouille et d'os (Rust and Bone) dir. Jacques Audiard

This has to be one of the most emotionally-charged films I've ever seen on a plane - I even missed out on the plastic plane food chicken. Marion plays a whale trainer with a tough core. A tragic accident changes her life and pride, but never fear, Matthias Schoenaerts comes to the rescue (certainly not with that weird Far from the Madding Crowd accent).

Film numéro 3: Innocence dir. Lucile Hadzihalilovic

One for those who like films with absolutely no meaning, but love fantastic cinematic experiences. A group of boarding school girls live in a quasi-futuristic forest and perform in bizarre ballet shows. Marion plays a teacher who tries to save them from the ongoing cycle...does she succeed? Well, you'll just have to watch the film you lazy so and so!

The director is also Gasper Noé's wife (which kind of explains the film with no meaning bit).

The black list:

Certainly do not waste your time with:

- Un long dimanche de fiançailles dir Jean-Pierre Jeunet (I won't bother giving you the title in English as you are obviously not going to watch it).

- Les petits mouchoirs dir. Guillaume Canet

or do it break the Culturethèque pact forever and ever amen...
