Paris, je t'aime
The lovely Laura from LLB Promotion sent me one of the best initiatives I've seen since the devastating Paris attacks on the 13th of November.
Upcoming musicians have taken to their instruments and released songs all about the city of lights.
It's a very moving gesture which includes the likes of Dutronc, Joni Mitchelland Leonard Cohen (covers of course!).
A particular highlight is Orouni's version of 'Gare De Lyon' - Barbara. You guys may have heard of Orouni (BECAUSE WE LOVE THEM), but perhaps not so much of Barbara. JD Beauvallet mentioned her in our interview as "a singer from the 50s/60s who is an amazing lyricist. An amazing singer. I think a lot of people in England love Edith Piaf, I think if they knew Barbara they would love her more. She is the darker side of Edith Piaf".
And here's what I have to say about Orouni's cover: besides the fact that it's been on repeat ever since Laura sent me the link, it's an absolute delight to listen to. Synth-like vocals with genteel guitar chords. Reminds me of Carl Barât's 'Ballad of Grimaldi' (obviously a Libertines reference from a no.1 fan like moi) with a more refined Shostakovich waltz-feel. Orouni has made a song for your lazy Sundays with your boyfriend/girlfriend/cat.
In short, I love it.
And if Orouni have 2 mins to cover this song, I will love them forever and will even bake them a victoria sponge.
Listen to the Orouni's version of 'Gare De Lyon' - Barbara (over and over again) right here.
