This is England vs. La Haine
Totally Serialized is totally back with spanking new TV series on the big screen. Do whatever you can to grab tickets (even selling those Nike shoes that are your pride and joy).
Now, listen up kids. It's time to get addicted to 'This is England' - the film and TV series that had me glued to the screen for 1584 mins (I watched all the episodes twice).
How can I sell it to you? Well it's got style, great music, phenomenal acting and a lorra lorra laughs. On top of all that, Shane Meadows' filming is just out of this world.
Watching this series gave me access to a whole mod/punk family who push and shove your emotions all over the place, even more so when you find out that most of the episode is a bottle of sparkling improvisation.
For the film geeks like moi:
If you're still not convinced, then cast your mind back to French GCSE lessons when your teacher made it his/her mission to be "the cool one". They may have brought in some croissants one morning, they may have even lent you a Johnny Hallyday CD, but they would have certainly whacked on La Haine.
From the hippin' hoppin' remix of Edith Piaf, to the weird scene with the cow...La Haine portrays sort of what goes down in les banlieues.
You'll soon be singing "I should be so lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky" because the Institut français is running a 'This is England' marathon (proud of that pun). Here are the details in an "in yer face" format:
Sat 30 Jan - 6.00pm to 8.00am
£15, conc. £13 Includes FREE COFFEE when the sun rises
So don your Fred Perry shirts and Doc Marten's for the 30th of January (even if you're going to watch The Libertines at the O2).
