Je Suis Documentary
It has been just over a year since the shocking attacks at the Charlie Hebdo office in Paris. Doc House presents a new documentary all about the aftermath.
Here's a bit of background information about the documentary:
Je Suis Charlie pays tribute to the 11 journalists of French satirical magazine 'Charlie Hebdo' who were killed in the January 2015 attack by radical Islamic extremists. The film serves as a document of the social upheaval that followed, as seen through television footage as well as the filmmakers' own cameras. In this sense, Je Suis Charlie is a public record; but its true power lies within the interviews the directors collect both before and after the assault on the Charlie Hebdo journalists. The result is a highly moving film that will inspire an examination of the complex issues that the magazine continues to raise.
And for those of you who can't be bothered to read things, here's the trailer:
Screening from the 29th of Jan - 4th of Feb at the fancy Curzon Bloomsbury. Book tickets via this link.
One of the perks of doing a Film Studies MA is the endless library hours, pounding away at the keyboard to get your essay in on time. Only joking, it's stumbling across hidden treasures like Doc House. They drip with passion about documentaries and host (deep breath) 'frequent post-screening filmmaker Q&As, panel discussions and events, 7 days a week'. Impressive stuff.
Doc House also has a splendid online hub, and here at Culturethèque HQ we have a bit of a fetish for online platforms. If you need a break from the French podcasts we offer, then click right here for a hub that's full to the brim with Q&As, news and sweet treats for documentary desert lovers.
We are actually quite jealous of their web design....
I leave you with some drawings that were sent in by Culturethèque members to commemorate Charlie Hebdo.
