Roll up! Roll up! The 2016 Festival de Cannes has officially begun! For the next ten days the crème de la crème of the cinema world will be waiting with baited breath to find out the names of this year’s winners.
We’ve got lots of info about how Cannes has developed over the years especially in the 1970s and 80s, when the festival was known as the International Film Festival. It became the Festival de Cannes in 2002. Despite the dodgy fashion sense and interesting haircuts, it’s worth delving into the past to see how the awards ceremony has developed over the years. - The increasingly famous Quebecois, Xavier Dolan, returns with Juste la fin du monde and an all-star line-up. Read more about Dolan’s previous work here.

- Marion Cotillard appears in several of the films appearing at Cannes this year, notably Juste la fin du monde and Mal de Pierres. Find out more about Cotillard’s various talents here.
- Starring in the haunting thriller Elle, Isabelle Huppert has teamed up with director Paul Verhoeven to give us all nightmares! If you’re a big Huppert fan, the Institut francais will be showing a special series of films in the next few weeks, you can find out on the general website here.
- Fabrice Luchini stars in Ma Loute, a hilarious old-fashioned French comedy set in Northern France. Find out more about his other work on Culturetheque.
