France at The Great Escape Festival

Sly Johnson

The Great Escape Festival in Brighton starts today and the best of up-and-coming French artists will be there to represent until Saturday the 21st of May. So you can get ahead of the game, we’ve put together a list of the French artists with links to their music, available via Culturetheque. You can access the music for free, you just need to make an account which takes less than two minutes – we promise!

Taking their place among The Great Escape‘s international line-up this year are Blick Bassy, specialised in afro-blues. You can hear more from them right here.

If it’s electro-pop that you’re into then DBFC are the ones for you, their track 'Leave My Room' is a big hit with clubbers and definitely worth a listen here. The trio M.A. BEAT! are also worth a listen, giving club music a more acoustic twist, check them out here.

Siska will be bringing funky beats to Brighton this weekend, sending out a chilled vibe, particularly with the track 'Unconditional Rebel'. Go on, have a listen…you know you want to! Here.

Fakear will also be heading to Brighton to launch some hardcore eletrco sounds and increase their profile even further. Get in the mood by giving their tracks a listen here.

Young and hip, male duet Her are making waves in both the British and French music industries. Brighton will be their third UK date following shows in London and Bristol. Here at Culturetheque we’re big fans and would definitely suggest giving them a try! Have a go here.

If it’s dance-pop that gets your juices flowing then Hyphen Hyphen are the ones for you. Get your dancing shoes ready before listening to these tracks.

Similarly high-energy and equally dancy, Holy Oysters will be on the South East coast this weekend. 'Film Noir' is our favourite track but you can hear their other material here.

If taking things down a notch and spending a relaxing weekend by the seaside is more your scene then we’d recommend Laura Cahen and Pollyanna for some indie-folk music. You can hear Laura here and Pollyanna here.

Last and by certainly no means least is Sly Johnson, beatboxer extraordinaire and all-round general soul-man. Have a listen, it’s infectiously good…we couldn’t resist at least three listens to 'Everybody Dancin’'. Guaranteed to get you on your feet! Take a peek here.

All these artists have been supported by the Institut Français. For more info about France at the festival you can read the French Music team’s festival page here. If it’s more general info you’re wanting, take a look at the festival website here.

See you there!
