On the 19th October, class Indigo from Muswell Hill Primary School, turned a critical eye towards the charming story of 'Ernest et Célestine' as told originally by the Belgian children's author and illustrator Gabrielle Vincent. You can read their insightful and super pro comments about the film adaptation below:
Millie's review:
This spectacular French animation film was directed by Stéphane Aubier, Vincent Patar and Benjamin Renner. I think Ernest and Célestine is a lovely film with incredible animation. It was written by Daniel Pennac and Gabrielle Vincent.
The film is based on two characters, Ernest (a bear) and Célestine (a mouse) although a number of other characters are in it too. It focusses on the most unlikely of friendships in a world where bears live above ground and mice live below.
I loved the characters. Ernest is very funny by getting hurt a lot in the start. This made a lot of children laugh and giggle. I also enjoy how it is based on friendship. The music was lovely too.
I recommend this film completely and would give it five stars. A cinema to see it in would be the French Institute in South Kensington, London. It is a must see being give the Cesar Award for Best Animated Film and costing 9 million Euros to make!
Yasmin's review:
On Wednesday the 19th October, my class went to see Ernest et Célestine, or Ernest and Célestine, directed by Stéphane Aubier, Vincent Patar and Benjamin Renner. This incredible film won the Cesar Award for Best Animated Film (I’m not surprised!) and cost a whopping 9 million Euros to make (again, I’m not surprised!)
The film is about an unlikely friendship between a big bear and a little mouse. It is set in a fictional world where bears live above ground and mice below. Bears hate and ignore mice and vice versa.
One day, Ernest and Célestine try to befriend each other but both worlds call the police to catch the ‘criminals’. So Ernest (reluctantly) lets Celestine live with him. But will they live happily ever after or will they get caught?
All in all, this is a great film and I highly recommend it. It is a must-see!
I like the French Institute because it is a beautiful place and all the staff are very kind. I recommend a visit here too!
Eddie's review:
Ernest et Célestine is a 2012 French animated movie. It cost 9 million euros to make and won a Cesar award for Best Animated Film. It tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a mouse and a bear.
The plot is about an orphan mouse named Célestine. Everyone around her wants to become a dentist but she just wants to become an artist. Then one night, when Célestine is collecting teeth, she stumbles upon a poor, hungry bear named Ernest whom she has lots of adventures with.
The scenery in this movie is fast-paced, action-packed and beautiful. I really love the music in this movie because it is extremely heart-warming. The acting and animation is also top-notch and I really love the character of Ernest as he is really funny.
I would highly recommend Ernest et Célestine, especially if you are a fan of animation!
