Triangular Talks at the French Institute in London

On March 13th, 2017, the French Institute and New Books in German will be co-hosting a session of talks open to publishers interested in translation trends between French, German and English. This event will be the occasion to explore hot trends in German-, English- and French-language fiction and non-fiction with editors from Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Zurich, Cologne and London, and to discuss new perspectives for translation between the three languages.

Programme of the event:


2.30-3.15 pm: Non-Fiction Panel. Speakers include Séverine Nikel (Director for Non-Fiction, Le Seuil), Laura Macaulay (Deputy Publisher, Pushkin), Martin Breitfeld (Senior Editor, Kiepenheuer & Witsch), and Alex Christofi (Author and Editor, Oneworld). Chaired by Lucie Campos (Head of the Book Office, Institut français du Royaume-Uni).

3.20-4.05 pm: Fiction Panel. Speakers include Manuel Carcassonne (Managing Director, Stock), Anna von Planta (Editor, Diogenes), Anna Kelly (Commissioning Editor, Fourth Estate), and Jorghi Poll (Editor, Edition Atelier). Chaired by Daniel Medin (Center for Writers & Translators).

4.10-4.55 pm: Conclusions. Speakers include Sophie de Closets (Editor and Managing Director, Fayard), Andreas Rötzer (Managing Director, Matthes & Seitz), Jacques Testard (Publisher, Fitzcarraldo), and Bill Swainson (Editor, Oneworld and MacLehose). Chaired by Lucie Campos (Head of the Book Office, Institut français du Royaume-Uni).

These talks are part of a worldwide series of events taking place in the run-up to France’s invitation of honour to the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2017. It is organized in partnership between the Institut français du Royaume-Uni, the Goethe-Institut, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the French Embassy in London, New Books in German, the “Frankfurt auf Französisch 2017” programme at the Frankfurt Book Fair, and the Franco-German Cultural Fund.
